I'm Radu. I've been writing code since I was 12. Throughout the years, I've experimented with and used a wide variety of technologies, either pragmatically or because of my love for the craft. Originally from Romania, I moved to the UK in 2013 to study Computer Science at The University of Manchester, then left for the Netherlands in 2022 in search of something different. After a short return to Romania, I'm now travelling around Asia with my wife.

Software is what I do best, so my world has been a bit shaken in the last couple of years with the advent of AI. I'm not a stranger to ML, as I've helped deploy Machine Learning systems across several industries for over 10 years. The arrival of capable large language models was expected and welcome, but watching software begin to reproduce parts of the craft I've spent most of my life developing has still taken some adjustment.

Even so, I'm proud to say that I still do what I love every day.

Over the past three years, I've divided my time between building and trying to monetise my own SaaS products and helping founders and established businesses launch products, improve their software operations, and deliver for their clients. Increasingly, that means finding responsible ways to apply off-the-shelf AI to real business problems and, in turn, create measurable value.

I remain sceptical of the idea that bigger models automatically produce better outcomes. They can feel more capable because they make increasingly confident assumptions when given vague instructions—of course your jaw will drop if you prompt copy Minecraft, make no mistakes and two hours later you get something that actually runs.

But, like any software tool, an LLM rarely performs to its potential out of the box. Clear requirements, thoughtful constraints, good context, and careful integration are important. Just as importantly, someone still needs to know what correct looks like.

I'm fortunate enough to sit in the middle of this shift: experienced enough to understand the systems being changed and how they work, but close enough to the work to build with new tools directly. Rather than reducing demand for what I do, AI has so far created new kinds of problems for clients to solve. On occasion, that demand exceeds my capacity.
